UNBREAKABLE BEGINNER DRONE W/ ZERO SOLDERING? TBS OBLIVION

IMPORTANT UPDATE: I dont think i would be a very good reviewer if I couldnt admit when I got things wrong and I think it is important to address a few errors in this vid. 1. a technical thing about the oblivion. the 2nd camera option allows for more tilt. 2. I was worried about how TBS would react but since the release of this video they have actually been quite open about the points raised during the video and I had the complete wrong impression with how they would react. TBS even after such a negative review were still happy for my to review things from them in the future and said they would be fine with any comments I have about their stuff. They were accepting of everything i raised and my findings but did point out how I was wrong about how cheap the frame is to produce. It does actually cost far more than what we stated in our review. sorry everyone we got that one wrong. I was expecting a bit of flame from them but they have been really professional.
Also saying JB was scared was a poor choice of words, he does a fantastic job and is a stand up member of our community. he tells it like its and never holds back. you can see JB’s thoughts on reviewing the Oblivion here

TBS doesn't even send a TBS Triumph antennae with this… for 300 bucks you get a dipole antennae? Wow… get a Mojo 230 if you are interested in a BNF drone in this price range. 329.99 and you'll get an upgrade on every part of the Oblivion with a Mojo 230. Better motors, ESCs, frame, LEDs, camera protection, everything. Big fatty fail TBS. Cant even send a real antennae for 300 bucks? wowowowowowowowow

My first racer was a IRC vortex 1, wich broke after 4 weeks, then a TBS vendetta wich held years and took a beating, and then I started building. And as a first racer; yes, i‘d pay for the oblivion! Good design, okay fast, and a community to help with the specific components!

Good review Stu; I'm the cashed up 60hr work per week who hasn't got time for building something that will withstand multiple crashes. TBS haven't been that great in support, I'm finding the Oblivion a pain to upgrade in terms of adding GPS (long range) as all the manuals don't quite fit the setup on the Oblivion. Overall though – great quad for me to learn. Maybe one day I'll get around to building something faster.

Always enjoy ctc and his technical take on his review. Grumpy is just too funny when he gets a quad in his hands.

I gota say, it is a good looking product. Yeah, the "pro race ready" label is marketing BS. But I do also think that quads are getting ridiculously overpowered, and this one has decent power without the drawbacks of stupid power. It won't kill any batteries, it is flying very smooth, and it isn't that much slower than your average quad. Comparing the price with some chinese products isn't really fair either – just saying "customer service". And I don't think 300$ is way overpriced – just because the parts are not super high power, it doesn't mean they are cheap. Frame 40$, 4 motors 60$, ESCs 60$, flight controller 40$, VTX 50$ – just those parts along are like ~250$ retail…Honestly, I think this is a great product. Not the cheapest, not the highest performance, but very well rounded. And I do think some good plastic is a better material than CF for a quad.

Lets face it, those who are going to buy a RTF quad are not going to notice it's average performance, however they can't benefit from high performance because they are still honing skills.
Plastic frames? yeah, they can work, and I like the idea of better connection due to no carbon blocking signals, but one good smack and you have to frame-off everything for repair.

This is just TBS's "Vortex" premium gear but overall average performance.

If you are starting out, I would recommend a Diatone or E-max, the gear is also pretty good and parts and support are plentiful, you can also "grow" into the hobby with one as they usually have very peppy motors. Don't go bargain basement as it usually costs more money and frustration that way.

If you like it and get good at it, then build your own kit with whatever you want- I still build on mostly Diatone Plus frames, I built one for $280, it has a Tramp VTX, Helio FC, DALRC 40 Amp esc 2307 2550kv motors and Foxeer micro arrow pro- it absolutely makes this thing look like it's standing still- but for a noobie, it would last 15 seconds before smashing into the ground/tree, it's wicked fast even at 30 degree tilt.

I could tell from the video it flew very smooth.I thought this frame was for long range type flying…i mite be wrong in that.

Tbs should have made a 6/7" version for range and a 5" with better motors for race, it will take 6s i would think, looking at the spec F3? 🙁

thanks for the vid , you stopped me buying it , it was in the cart ready to go , and although your vid never really showed much onboard flight , but just plenty of yeah nah's and head closeups , i still decided against getting it , and it's also aimed more for chill flying like i do i think , but the frame breaks easy after seeing other videos , and on hearing it had video noise , that was very dissapointing ….. the attraction for me was the ease of mounting a crossfire T antenna on plastic , not having to worry about any carbon , and of course 800mw to go with that for range …..the emax hawk is cool , but then it's not going to do longer distance well like this would , i think the advertising and a few race orientated BS vids fecked this quad in the ass , you know the vid , the one where he tries to sell the shit out of it and won't let anyone finish a sentence, no it's not a racer clearly , so don't make it out to be on the box , then dissapointment won't come to people , make a stronger frame and lose the noise and it will appeal to more people again , the price is high but comments are all comparing it to different style quads , or lumps of shite that fly and glitch all over the place , £250 would be ok if it had no noise with an F4 , and the frame was stronger , so guess i'm building again
