“Too Many ESCs & Receivers” Confessions of an RC Addict – CAFBAW #7

Howdy, you can join me at the workbench for a chit-chat around ESC’s & FrSky receivers. As you’ll soon see I have issues with these as well and not just motors (see episode #2). Enjoy the chat! Full details below Press SHOW MORE to see them, Matt

These are fantastic to get all the channels from SBUS or PPM

Good ESCs
These speed controllers have been used & abused and have stood up to my abuse:

Good FrSky Receivers
These FrSky receivers have worked well for me:

L9R –

Those 30a ESCs used to be really good back in its time but it's completely outdated when you compare it to the tiny blheli ESCs you get today.

why did you put the emax crappy ESC in the box? throw it away 😛
In fact you called a variety of things rubbish yet you did not throw them away. 😛

Being a Futaba flyer, I've used FrSky FASST receivers like the TFR4 and TFR6 and they have been excellent – unlike the ORX RFA04 which I've found lacks range and killed my DW rainbow in a fairly spectacular way …….

Matt, saw them a while ago but they do sell the rarebear esc.

⬆ that's the rarebear esc and you can find different amp esc here from the same manufacture⬇

I used the blue HK 30A ESCs in a few models now and they are bullet proof. Cheap as chips too! Currently £7.48 on the UK site.

I pull the Dynam ESC's out and pitch them in the trash. Simply junk. I usually buy Turnigy ESC's myself. I have three Dynam planes and refuse to use Detrum junk in my planes.

always use the blue 30 amps hk ones have had a few of the 20 amp ones as well ,also have 2 of the 40 amp hk 's def bullet proof …did have a smoker with one of the 20 amp, but think that was due to flying in the rain (silly boy)soaked grass lol.could have done with more info on them s2pw converters the other day …but sir Andrew and sir David helped me sort that.

Instead of a SBUS to PWM converter which cost around 12€ on Banggood one could use a cheap F3 Piko BLX flight controller which cost around 8€ on ebay and has 6 PWM outputs. I use it with an XM+ on a small wing running INAV

Have you found a cheap and good BlHeli ESC is 40/50/60/80+ Amp options? some local guys are raving about the Wraith 66A with heatsinks added (but no BEC).

The Cobra 'Wing' BlHeli ESCs are nice but they are SUPER expensive.

The Plush were origianllay made by Hobbywing ( a very good manufacturer)
Later plush's were made by other companies, supposedly .
No mention of YEPS 🙂 . Still my favourite esc. Matts YEP probably had the fault where it wouldnt save programmed settings . Otherwise the best ecs Ive used (at least 20 of em so far )

I have a similar problem, but mine is with servo's… can't resist buying them, testing them out with a laser, having fifteen spares lined up for every plane… I cruise around servo pages in reseller stores and nearly always end up with a few in the cart..

I have 3 of them myself. they were bought in 2014 for a scratch build I did. there were 4 of course but, one failed. I was running motors to power hungry and overproped, we are talking 90 amp draw on 4s. Them blue bricks are as tough as they are heavy, absolutely perfect for a fixed wing.
