The problem with using your hands to turn is if you are taking docks you won't be able to use your hands. You need to learn to use the rest of your body to turn such as your legs. No matter what position I am flying, back, belly, sit or head down I never use my hands to turn. I use my shoulders mostly. There are times in 4-ways (belly flying) when you release a grip and have to turn to get to the next position, that you will use your arms and legs so that you turn much faster.
