Hands-On with Skydio R1 Autonomous Drone!

We go hands-on with the Skydio R1, a camera-equipped drone that not only flies autonomously, but can actually track you and avoid almost any obstacle in its flight path. And from our first test, it actually works–we couldn’t get it to crash. Skydio CEO and co-founder Adam Bry walks us through the computer vision technology that makes the R1 work, and we share our impressions from the impressive test flight.

Next version to have longer battery life, be foldable, memory card slot, Uzi mount … bit cheaper. Perhaps different models for different price points.

If to install a teaser, this drone can catch runaways! hahahaha

This drone looks pretty amazing! BUT the $2,500 price tag and lack of any real RC to control it makes me think its not going to "fly" in the market. My Mavic Air has obstacle avoidance that I DON'T trust (it hit a tree and fell into the sand and lost all four motors), but I am not sure I would be willing to pay 4X the price just to have a trustworthy follow me mode.

Nice quad, terrible price point! Get this thing $1000 cheaper and DJI would be in serious trouble!

$2500? good luck selling it to surfers, bikers, runners. $800 will be much more competitive!! dont end up selling it for $300 like lytro

Dat price tho. Really nicely developed. Everything starts out a bit premium. The hardware will come down in price in time.

This device is cool. I'd buy one in a heartbeat if the video footage was better…A LOT better. The bar is just so high right now for decent, color gradeable 4k footage from DJI and a few others. Even though the AI and tech is fantastic, the capture quality for this device this is a deal-breaker for those who need good footage for their projects.

The other day I was just saying there was tech that made drones follow you without any device on that person to track them like in the past. Thank you for having this brilliant inventor explain it! We are getting that much closer to AI as i also felt it followed you more like a dog or person would in its movements vs robotic movement.
